Simon Grimes
Shadows
Drawing on the colourful history of The Rocks, “Shadows” will insert ambiguous and slightly sinister figures into the nooks and crannies of the old sandstone buildings alongside the steps in Argyle Street.
Using shadows and the elimination of light to invoke images, the installation is the latest creation from architect, sculptor and photographer Simon Grimes.
What's Smart?
Shadows replaces the existing floodlights with small efficient 20W metal halide spotlights, creating art through the use of shadow
About the artist
Simon is an architect, sculptor and photographer who works as the in-house model maker for a large architectural practice. His preferred media include recycled timber, rusting metal and found objects, often salvaged from the redevelopment projects that he is working on. His works are often abstract pieces which blur the boundaries between art and architecture, reworking familiar objects in unexpected ways. Many of his works use a mathematical constant or algorithm as a means to generate the underlying patterns in an architectural texture.
