Future Cities
Symposium 1: Future Cities - Light and meaning in the city
Supported by: Australian Institute of Landscape Architects
Wednesday 27 May 2009
Cities developed for the exchange of goods and ideas. Electric light transformed the use of the city by extending the number of usable hours for people to personally interact with one another in large numbers for commercial and cultural purposes. Can we safely and sustainably increase and enhance this usage and thus improve the quality of civic life? What role can Landscape Architects and Urban Planners play in creating poetry and atmosphere through lighting, thus enriching the recreational, tourism and economic life of the city after dark?
