72 Erskine Spectrum Series
Located in the heart of the Sydney CBD and home to The Sydney International Cultural Centre, 72 Erskine is a versatile event venue which promotes cultural exchange by hosting a selection of inspiring and innovative cultural and artistic programs throughout the year.
For Smart Light Sydney, 72 Erskine has invited its three Artists in Residence to design and create a colourful program showcasing their respective talents and passions as part of the 72 Erskine Spectrum Series.
Mary-Anne Kyriakou (lighting designer, composer, and director of Smart Light Sydney), Cherie Valaray (coloratura soprano), and Emanuel Schmidt (jazz guitarist and composer) represent the international nature of the venue and its aim to promote cultural exchange.
Enlisting an outstanding group of collaborators, these three artists have drawn from the wells of their inspirations to create performances relating to the festival theme ‘City and Memories.’ Some concerts will feature world premieres of works composed specifically for the festival.
The 72 Erskine Spectrum Series will include original music and classic Blue Note jazz works; a classical recital presented by East West Philharmonic Orchestra; a Broadway Soiree; an experimental collaboration featuring classical musicians applying improvisation principles; a poetry night; and the Artist In Residence Concert - a unique synergy of collaborations and individual performances.
A themed Art Exhibition featuring an eclectic mix of handpicked Sydney-based, international visual artists, will complement these performances.
Featured Artists: Mary-Anne Kyriakou, Cherie Valaray, Emanuel Schmidt, East West Orchestra, Ulrich Schild, Efim Novikov, Dejan Vucelic, Miles Merrill, Trevor Brown, Edwina Blush, Julia de Plater, Elen Rapoport, Alister Spence and Craig Scott.
The 72 Erskine Spectrum Series is proudly supported by SR Technology
'Illumination at 72 Erskine Street', a series of events hosted by Illuminating Engineering Society, will be held on 3, 4, 10 and 11 June 2009.
Flynn Talbot's work Horizon will feature in the front window of 72 Erskine Street as part of the Smart Light Walk series of installations. HORIZON is a light wall installation that invites user interaction. Instead of purely programmed effects, it invites visitors to interact and modify the patterns of light. It is a piece, which goes against modern light programming installations and instead creates a more personal experience by allowing individual expression. For more information click here
