Ruth McDermott
Sea Fan
While a single candle creates a very small amount of light, people of the past learned to amplify the effects through magnificent candelabra and chandelier designs based on the principles of reflection, refraction and diffusion.
Using contemporary materials and processes, Ruth McDermott, explores these optical principles at Art Light with her installation at UTS with her installation Sea Fan.
An industrial designer specialising in lighting products and installations, McDermott has won several international design awards and has exhibited in Milan, Tokyo, Seattle, Verona, Oslo and throughout Australia.
She is participating in Art Light, a free exhibition at UTS, open daily until 10.00pm, 26 May – 14 June.
