Francesco Mariotti
Fire Flies
Francesco Mariotti creates sculptures that are hybrid, using mixed materials and the items that others often consider as rubbish. His beautiful Fire Flies art sculpture uses low energy lighting and recycled materials such as colourful PET bottles to create a poetic piece along the walls of Argyle St.
What’s Smart?
Using only 75 watts, this installation turns recycled materials that might be considered garbage by some, into a beautiful work of art.
About the artist?
Francesco has studied in Lima, Paris and Hamburg, since the 1960s, focusing on the complex relations between art, nature and technology.
After a long stay in Latin America in the 1970s, he experimented with the interactions between electronic and IT devices and the creation of multi-sensorial installations and works. His works have appeared in many international exhibitions, from Documenta in Kassel (1968) to the Biennales in Sâo Paulo (1969) and Medellin (1979) and Expo in Osaka (1991).Specialising in video art, he was one of the organizers of the VideoArt Festival in Locarno, conceived by Rinaldo Bianda. With biologist Stefan Ineichen in 2005, he organized in Zurich the first 'Festival of Fireflies', which led to a further production, 'Immigration', for the Park of Living Art in Turin and the Symposion Lindabrunn near Vienna.
