Michael Day

Waste

Smart Light Map ref: 12

Great art can be hung from walls and suspended from ceilings, but Michael Day wants his installation for the Light Walk to be scattered along the roadside like garbage.

His creation, Waste, will exploit humble household garbage bags, sprinkled beside the footpaths, bus shelters and building foyers of Argyle Street, The Rocks.

Filled with flickering LED fairy lamps, the bags will magically light up when approached.

What’s Smart?

Using LEDs powered by battery, Waste will use virtually no power, while reflecting on the ‘waste’ caused by traditional light bulbs.

About the Artist:

Michael is an architect and interior designer and has built projects in 11 countries and currently lectures at the School of Design at UTS.

Michael is the curator of the Art Light exhibition and organiser of the Smart Light Symposia at UTS during the Vivid/Smart Light Sydney Festival. He also has an exhibition of his lighting research projects at the DabLab Gallery at UTS during the Festival.
