Lumenocity lights up to win the Smart Light Sydney People’s Choice Award
An abstracted energy map of Sydney’s CBD, by an inspired team of young architects, has taken out the People’s Choice Award for the inaugural Smart Light Sydney Light Walk.
Lumeoncity, by Sean Bryen, Sascha Crocker and Andrew Daly proved the most popular installation among the 25 light art pieces on show for this year’s Light Walk, according to an online poll run in conjunction with 702 ABC Sydney radio.
The art work is located in the forecourt of Customs House and creates a glowing landscape that visitors can wander through, drawing attention to the energy consumed by the city on a daily basis.
Lumenocity gives visitors pause to contemplate the true cost of Sydney's night-time beauty, both in terms of energy consumption and light pollution – tying in perfectly with Smart Light Sydney’s focus on smart lighting that is low in its use of energy and production of light pollution.
The People’s Choice Award was presented by Simon Marnie from 702 ABC Sydney on Wednesday 10 June at the Smart Light Sydney Business Club, on Level 3 at Cruise Bar.
Smart Light Sydney is a major component of Vivid Sydney, a unique new public festival transforming the city into a living canvas of music and light from 26 May – 14 June 2009.
Vivid Sydney is one of five anchor events in the first ever NSW Master Events Calendar created by Events NSW on behalf of the NSW Government.
